Chapter 5 from the Bedford Book of Genre is very helpful. The beginning of Chapter 5 is about choosing a research topic. This is the most important step to writing any paper, to know what you are going to write about. The topic has to be interesting to you and it is good to do some research first. The book also discusses that if your research topic is to hard to drop it and think of another. It is also very important to make sure your sources are reliable because if they aren't then your argument won't be that strong.
