Project 1 Draft

Where do you feel like you are most heard?

I feel like I am most heard when I am on the football field with my friends. Sports helps us gain respect and an unbreakable friendship with team mates. Throughout high school I played Flag football, and my team became my family. My sophomore year I got moved up to varsity and became a captain, to become a captain means your team respects you enough to follow you with every decision you make on and off the field. I played center meaning I hiked the ball to the quarter back, which is a very important position. If I were to call a different play and make a quick decision there was no doubt in my mind that my team would follow me. The three captains were in charge of getting everyone pepped up and ready to go in the beginning and during half times. Together the team would listen to us

Where do you feel most spoken to?(Who?)

I feel most spoken to by my couch who was also my assistant principle. He helped me on and off the field and was always open to talk, whether it was important or me and my team mates just wanted to bother him. He always pushed us to our limits and believed in us. When we were losing a game he would remind us that we were better than this and he has seen us do amazing things. He would call meetings just for us to talk as a team and make sure we were all connected. He always encouraged me and spoke to me in a way that made me push harder in my life. To this day I am still best friends with my team mates because of him and he is still in my life.

Its complicated

My high school had horrible teachers mostly and staff. When I would go to the office they would ignore me. Most of my teachers were disrespectful to students. Even if my coach was the assistant principle and I was going to see him in the office they would pretend like they didn’t recognize me.

I think I am going to write about flag foot ball, I played it through out high school and I think a team is a very important community to be a part of

Project 1 Draft #2

Being a part of a community is like being part of a family. A discourse community is a group of people involved in and communicating about a particular topic or issue. A community is a place you feel you are always heard and respected. Somewhere you feel guidance and support. The community I miss being a part of the most is Flag football. I feel like I am most heard when I am on the football field with my friends. Throughout high school I played Flag football, and my team became my family. My sophomore year I got moved up to varsity and became a captain. When you are on varsity you get a varsity letter. Along with the varsity letter you get recognition pins to show your achievements.

When you receive a varsity letter usually it is the first letter of your school. They are given out at the end of a season your senior year to recognize outstanding performance. These letters are a significant tradition in sports and have tremendous meaning to the people that receive them. Although we didn’t get everything the boys football team got our couch made sure we got letters and recognition pins because he knew the amount of dedication and hard work we put into the sport. Our couch was the reason we never gave up and the reason we would win districts every year and made it to state. Anyone who has been a part of a team knows just how important it is and uplifting it is to have people around you that will always have your back. It was always known that the upper classmen took care of the underclassmen. I needed help from my older team mates and eventually without even realizing it switch, and I had younger teammates asking for my help because I was once in their position. As soon as you are a part of a team you join a family.

There are different pins for different acknowledgements and achievements. The pins on my varsity letter are for being a captain and for playing all four years of high school. Being a captain is an important position, everyone on the team must respect you, trust you, and follow your decisions. Being given the honor of being captain means the rest of the team knows you will lead them in the right direction. In high school the co-captains were in charge of making sure everyone bonded so we would play like a unit on the field. We would gather everyone in one spot as a requirement and have team bondings, no excuses to not be there. After the first bonding it went so well it became a tradition. I created a tradition my sophomore year of high school. That is what getting the pin is about starting something that will leave a mark. Not thinking about something and saying maybe but taking charge and getting the job done. My co-captain and I brought the team together and after that night we played better than we ever have, and I know even after high school the family I made from that team will still be there. The pin I got for being on Flag Football for all four years was more of a dedication pin. My couch gave this to the people he thought he could trust the most to always be accounted for. Showing up for practice, the games, putting 100 percent in every time, and being there for your team mates on and off the field. Other pins received were pins for getting moved up half way through the season, or playing your first season, even most spirited.

My favorite memories were from the team bonding’s we use to have but by far our greatest achievement as a team was beating our biggest rival Seminole ridge. We would always go through both our seasons undefeated in our district only to end up facing each other in the end  every time. When our team became a family we became the best team in the district. For the past five years including my freshman year we had yet to beat Seminole Ridge. The fact that we were so connected on the field we knew exactly what the other team mate was thinking. We kept up the score and finally beat them in over time. This was a huge accomplishment especially since Seminole ridge players had been playing since they were four and most of our players although played other sports only knew about flag football since freshman year. Since I was captain and I played center, I was in charge of making sure everyone knew the play and what to do. I played a big part in helping the underclassmen learn what their jobs were. I learned that working as a team can achieve great things and having a community is a great thing to be a part of.

A community can become a family if you are lucky enough. Everyone is a part of one type of community or another. A community is based on the relationships and being a member of a community can create feelings of appreciation for yourself and others. A community is a place you feel you are always heard and respected. Somewhere you feel guidance and support. The community I miss being a part of the most is Flag football. I feel like I am most heard when I am on the football field with my friends. Throughout high school I played Flag football, and my team became my family. Receiving a varsity letter is a very high achievement, along with that, you receive pins that mean even more. My team was my family and together we accomplished everything we could have hoped for.

For the past five years including my freshman year we had yet to beat Seminole Ridge. The fact that we were so connected on the field we knew exactly what the other team mate was thinking. Even the referees knew how important the game was every time we played, so they wouldn’t call anything. They let us play even if we were being too aggressive and trash talking. At least three players on each team would get a concussion when we played. However, even when injured we would be back in the game after one play, because we knew everyone was needed. We kept up the score and finally beat them in over time. This was a huge accomplishment especially since Seminole ridge players had been playing since they were four and most of our players although played other sports only knew about flag football since freshman year. REFLECTION

I usually don't enjoy writing papers, however, I really enjoyed writing my project one paper because it brought back a lot of memories. It let me express how I felt about my team and let me share that with others. This paper actually made me realize how much I missed being in this commuinty and encouraged me to join an intramural flag football team. Although it will never replace my original community it felt good to be apart of something again. This paper let me realize how much I accomplished on my high school football team. Being a captain was extremely important to me and the traditions I helped make, made me feel important. To know that they will continue after me and that I made something that will help others through high school, because we all know how hard it is. It also helped me remember how great it was to be on the field and how as soon as you touched the feild nothing else mattered. If you were stressed in school having trouble with your family it couldn't follow you out there. Even if you were in a fight with a team mate some how it would be resolved by the end of the game with out even speaking to each other.
