It is unusual for an author to appeal to everyone, it is most likely they are writing for a target audience. A target audience is a particular group of people, that is intended recipient of a book, advertisement and many other forms of entertainment. When you are trying to improve your business it is easier to target your advertisements in the right the direction in order to improve your productivity. Another example is thinking back to when you were a kid. It is most likely you treated your mother different than your father when you wanted something from them. It is easier for an audience to follow and enjoy your work if it is clear and to the point you are trying to make. In order to keep your audience's attention an author must decide who they are writing to and write accordingly.
